Their DRM is hard to remove. You can buy books from Kobo or other retailers like ebooks.com. Some don't use DRM but Adobe DRM can be removed. Once you have an epub book without DRM you can put it on any eReader with calibre. </p><p><div class="card col-md-9 col-lg-6 position-relative link-preview p-0">

I believe both Kobo and Google Play Books use that format, and there are likely many others.</p><p>You can also buy direct from authors, and many (like myself) sometimes give away free copies.</p><p>The key is knowing how to sideload books on your Kindle.
