That’s good news, but not surprising: on a while range of issues from solar panels to EV batteries to nuclear power, there’s a pattern of energy industry shills talking things up or down depending on how they align with industry interests. Once you see it it’s pretty easy to recognize.

This has always been kown. This is separare to the loss of capacity with each charge/discharge cycle. So itis correct to have worries about longevity of batteries in cars. However, it appears they improved the chemistry to last longer, much longer.

Thats true. If you don't drive much then any car is a waste. But on the topic of battery recycling it is already happening. The battery makers are anticipating the "black mass" from old batteries to be a big part of future production.

You can get a 62kWh replacement battery for it, extending the range to ~380km (355kg means having access to appropriate equipment for the swap, but the swap itself wasn't an awful process).

For $2k I also found a battery rack into which you can bolt your 40kWh of old Leaf batteries and power your house.

Every so often I think about replacing my car with an electric vehicle… but it’s 11 years-old and barely over 53,000 km—so replacing it would be a terrible choice footprint-wise!

Don't believe the FUD, there HAVE been some bad apples (like the Leaf) that gave EVs a black eye but those are old tales.
