Feeling like every project I ever want to do is just always too late, items rendered obsolete by development and far more difficult than it needs to be for no reason

Following clear instructions never yields the same, simple result, no matter how hard I try, or how many times I make changes in config files, libraries etc.

Nothing.Fucking.Works.

Am I just bad at this?

It would be weird if the community killed it before EOL.

On the other hand generic modules like sensors and displays can be a real headache. I had a datasheet for an LCD giving me the wrong address to communicate with it from an Arduino via I2C. Quite far from what you're doing there, but an example of a bad doc.

Extremely annoying, but I really can't find any support for anything backwards compatible with a zero anymore which feels like a betrayal of permacomputing.

Don't know much about the topic I'm afraid. But I do know that while there's a move towards Wayland, Xorg hasn't been killed yet and should be usable, Wayland is not obligatory... yet.

I think I recall an earlier mention of SPI from you? If that's the case, were you able to draw anything on it? It's possible to bypass drivers and stuff, and simply communicate with the device PINs via Python, provided SPI is enabled and loaded on the Pi.

I have been looking, reading researching, rewiring, recompiling, reflashing to older OS versions, and still getting nothing.

And also found out that the move to Waylan in newer OS versions of Debian has fucked up most, if not all drivers for every lcd screen for pi zeros, despite seeing documentation that is only like a year old.

If you'd like to help, that would be amazing, and appreciated, but wow I am so tired

I am still extremely new at this, but I do know a little. It just feels like this shouldn't be this hard, y'know?

If that's the case, keep in mind there's a good share of badly documented software out there, or just lack of it for a specific environment. Can happen in community projects that are moving too fast, making it confusing.

So it might not be entirely your fault if it doesn't work in your environment.
