As soon as many of them have too leave their abstraction they panic. Personally I think knowing how the system actually works makes me better at all parts of using it including programming. But that's rarely what is thought in school.

But I also don't think it's that unusal for this not to be true for single people
But this view is influenced by the fact that my university had a comp sci program that was leaning towards the theoretical aspects)

My bachelor's thesis and master's thesis don't even depend on the existence of PCs (as they are on topics in theoretical computer science), computer science has many aspects and you don't even have to be into computers that much to enjoy it
