Using SmartOS is a good choice: when the VM is idle, SmartOS (illumos, in general) seems even more efficient. This means, you can see an idle use of the cpu around 1/2% on FreeBSD, zero on SmartOS.</p><p>I'd personally use them both, depending on the use case.
