I've previously read The Colour of Magic.

The one thing I get from Pratchett from his writing is that a lot of the time the plot isn't quite as cohesive as Pratchett is so busy trying to get the reader from one funny scenario to the next. Also, IMHO the humour is quite subjective.

What I'm trying to say is that I'm not quite sure if Terry Pratchett does it for me.

#book #books #bookstodon #booksky #reading #readingcommunity

Reply to I'm reading Mort by Terry Pratchett right now. on Wed, 29 Apr 2026 19:46:35 GMT

@hannaB So I was listening to the audiobook of Mort before and I missed parts of it due to lack of attention span. Magic really had chapters that felt like a rough draft, whereas there is an overall story going on in Mort.

soheb@pkutalk.com

Reply to I'm reading Mort by Terry Pratchett right now. on Wed, 29 Apr 2026 15:08:04 GMT

@soheb Do you think the plot in Mort feels less cohesive than in The Colour of Magic, or is it a different kind of funny?

hannab@social.vir.group

Reply to I'm reading Mort by Terry Pratchett right now. on Tue, 28 Apr 2026 20:28:09 GMT

So it turns out I was listening to the audiobook, and my brain had a little frazzle at times when listening to Mort.
