Even my chaotic son has copied the system and is happy now.

All sleeveless by colour in a row, then short sleeves by colour, then long sleeves. Jeans vertical in drawers, leggins rolled, thinner trousers on hangers below the blouses. Best working system for me so far.

One is for tshirts wearable outside, and one for home only. I might introduce another stack, to separate those wearable outside but not necessarily to work. All folded flat in a way, that a piece of the print is visible in front of the stack.

I adapted my folding after reading Marie Kondo's book, not precisely in line with her recommendations but in a way that suits me: I fold across the line of symmetry first, and then in half the other direction, twice, to get a shape that's fairly compact and can be arranged like records in a record shop. I can flip through a "stack" (stacked front to back in a drawer) to find what I want, and I define a "stack" by the overall shape of the shirt, because it's concealed in folded form. So, long sleeves are separate from short sleeves.

Exceptions: I roll tank tops, sweaters (because they're too bulky otherwise), and the kinds of materials that don't hold a folded form, which generally includes anything for hiking.

(Though at the moment they're rolled and put in a plastic tub on the floor due to a shortage of furniture).
