Things go down, they come back up. Things change, sometimes they are worse, then later they get better. The thing that gives me hope is that they will come back up and get better. Historically this pattern takes years, however we are just about due for that shift.

That is what gives me hope.

My daughter. She is 7

I'm going through a stupid divorce.
Her mom (German) has untreated mental health issues.

I (American/Swedish) have moved to Portugal, for reasons.

My daughter is in the Netherlands, and the chance of me having custody, seems slim.

My daughter was here with me for two weeks, she touches the hearts of everyone she meets, they remember me and her when she is not here.

Watching her gives me hope

On average, I teach about 100 students per term at my university, and average one openly awful student per year. That means that either awful people are a tiny by noisy minority, or awful people still feel enough shame to recognise that bring bigoted towards the person who marks their assignments isn't a good idea. Either way, it's a small win.
