I'll admit I worry that it would be more of a comfort to settlers than helpful for indigenous communities. Personally I like the idea of our representatives getting used to seeing indigenous people in the halls of power, even if it begins as symbolic. The networking potential is real, though, if a faithful indigenous advocate is chosen
