I actually think Iā€™m going to give Xero a go for a bitā€¦ it seems to have the best price for what I personally need, overall. Itā€™ll really help offload a lot of the cognitive work and that matters the most to me.

Frappe Books ā€” Free, runs locally, no cloud (from what I can tell). Also no paid option, so I am not sure how/why they are producing it. Maybe they have plans for freemium/paid plans in the future https://frappe.io/books

Manager ā€” Free, runs locally. Paid option to use their cloud, if you need multiple users, etc. https://www.manager.io

I would rather pay a moderate amount to cover their legitimate costs of running the service.

But I was already annoyed with Wave for other reasonsā€¦ mostly deleting the super helpful user forums, which were an amazing resource, and moving all ā€œsupportā€ to an AI chat bot.

What does put me off as a small business is their lack of a free trial period of paid features before paying $25/month.

Didnt know Wave had started charging but honestly I prefer that. Itā€™s normal for a business to pay an accounting tool and i remember few years ago when I was using Wave i felt afraid of the long term viability of a company that wasnā€™t charging anything. Either they sell my data or they go bankrupt.

Id rather have them charge a fair price!

Wave just started charging for features that used to be free (primarily bank transaction auto-import), so itā€™s been on my list to look for alternatives. (Funny how Wave, originally the alternative to QBO, now calls for its own alternative! šŸ¤Ŗ)

The issue is when you grow enough is that accountants / bookkeepers only accept to work with certain tools. Which locks you in with shitty tools (aka QBO)
