I like the sculpture both ways but it looks like an alien firefighter in the photo where it's being repaired, so that would be my preference

In theory you should be able to go out there with some goo-gone and it'll take that right off. Not sure why that cost $3k unless the finish wasn't bonded properly and it peeled off with the adhesive.
