Today is my Aunt Kitty's birthday. She'd be 86. My least uptight relative, by far.

When I spent the Summers in SC as a kid, her house in the mill village, 50 yards from my grandmother, was my favorite hangout.

Music seemed always to be playing, loud, in the house, and often as not was a Loretta Lynn album. She'd sing along in the kitchen while she cooked or feet up, in a recliner.

Kitty gave me $5/week pocket money for pasting S&H Green Stamps into books and rubber banding her Raleigh cigarettes coupons in 100s. I'd learned the words to some songs and sang along while I worked.
