I had a good doc who was trying to diagnose my then-mysterious fatigue. When the usual tests showed nothing, they wanted me to do a sleep test.

I protested. I didn't perceive myself to have a sleep problem, and my husband never heard me snore. Finally I gave in and went, and sure enough I had sleep apnea. It was just quiet.

This wasn't the whole answer to my fatigue but it helped a great deal, and had that doc not pushed, I don't think I'd ever know this. Sleep tests are very easy now! No more nights at labs, covered in wires. You can take one at home with light monitoring. If you even suspect you could benefit, try it. They help a lot if you need them.

#ChronicFatigue #Fibromyalgia #MECFS #ChronicIllness #CPAP

Reply to CPAP fact: You can have need of a CPAP without snoring! on Mon, 01 Jun 2026 12:48:16 GMT

@paco @hollie My at-home test showed enough for diagnosis, but this is an insurance issue. They won’t pay for the in-lab test unless the at-home is inconclusive, so if the at-home test doesn’t show anything and you’re not getting enough rest, press your doctor on it, so they can convince the insurance company it’s needed.

(Not getting enough sleep can lead to all kinds of expensive health problems, so it’s in your insurance company’s best interests to get that diagnosed. )

ramsey@phpc.social

Reply to CPAP fact: You can have need of a CPAP without snoring! on Mon, 01 Jun 2026 12:09:55 GMT

@hollie My sister in law was the same. Turned it in, and the doctor concluded no problems. A year or 2 later a different doctor recommended the lab with all the wires and I got a solid apnea diagnosis and now I have the CPAP. So the home machines are not always as good as the full sleep lab setup.

Glad you got the diagnosis though.
