So yes, I kind of see it coming. The problem is that certain business-bros want their data pulled up stat when they ask the AI. But they also want the data to be reliable. These startups are selling that they can solve these issues with the power of totally-not-an-llm-wrapper (agentic)...? Can they do that? Can they do that better, easier and cheaper than just hiring a data person?

First of all: So good we can choose in the Linux world: if you agree, stick with Ubuntu. If not, pick one out of so many other distros out there.
As an answer to the question itself: I am very sceptical about the unreflected massive use of AI burning millions of trees for useless slops. On the other hand there are so many possibilities that it might seem wise to carefully integrate functions into our systems. It is a tool just like a calculator is.

I'm sure if there was an agentic AI era, Windows would be the operating system for it, seeing as it has spent gazillions of dollars on exactly that over the last couple of years. And that's how it should stay. I don't want that stuff in Linux. It's sad to see this guy has boarded the hype train.

It is Community-Maintained with maintainers all over the world. It would be very difficult to actually push this AI crud or enforce Identity Verification if anyone can remove it. Companies like Canonical (the ones who owns Ubuntu) can always be paid off or forced into compliance as they are the centralised power to convince or go after. There is really no reason not to use Linux Mint when it is basically just Ubuntu without Canonical's shady practices. @itsfoss
