In return, Apple received labor at rock-bottom prices and the freedom to create oppressive working conditions. Apple was a model for offshoring companies like Tesla.

And you think the Apple Tax is nothing but a spot of greed? By charging appstore vendors so much, Apple is incentivizing them using any/all unscrupulous means to exploit their users for an extra buck. Apple is thus incentivized to look the other way while this is happening – because the underhanded stuff is producing a lot of their revenue stream – things like the malware that was infesting 60k iOS apps.

Incidentally, of the two Google & Apple, Google was the only one to publicly acknowledge the problem and commit to eliminating Patternz.

IMO, you can't prioritize the badness of these two corps. Apple has normalized personal computing as a state surveillance and social manipulation platform, including opression of workers. They just haven't gotten in your particular champagne-liberal face with it. @codinghorror
