All the cheap, high-quality in easy to get oil is largely tapped out. This is why shale, fracking and deep sea oil rigs are needed now at least with the current economy’s energy consumption.

Economically viable oil resources really only have a few decades, with oil extraction costing more in money and energy to get a unit of energy out.

Transition is needed even without climate change, but the global economy will face a reckoning when it cannot burn energy with more intensity
