When I needed a specific component to repair our furnace a few years ago, I ordered the right part and the parts place sent a similar, but wrong one. One of the bulbs burned out.

My electrician said he could replace it for me. I sent over pictures. He showed up with a bulb that was the wrong color temperature. No problem, he says, I'll take the burned-out one with me and order a correct replacement.

Four weeks pass without him getting back to me. I finally give up and ask him to tell me what bulb I need so I can go buy one myself. He sends me a screenshot of an Amazon page. I take careful notes of everything about the bulb in the screenshot.

Somehow I buy the wrong one anyway

I go to the hardware store and buy one bulb of every socket type except for a single weirdo socket type that nobody, including me, ever uses. Then when a bulb goes out I'm guaranteed that it's that singular type I *didn't* buy and since I know where exactly the thing I didn't buy is I can run out and get it really easily.
