This guarantees the data is identical to the source data up to the point it hits a DAC. It’s a pro A/V thing, admittedly less convenient for people who don’t need that bit-for-bit guarantee.</p><p>Incidentally, most displays designed to work with Macs do audio as a USB audio interface with the volume control on the analog side.
