She was a writer and an activist, and she was elected as a Member of the European Parliament during the first-ever direct elections in 1979. Early in her career, in 1918, she was involved in the launch of a newspaper: ‘’L'Europe Nouvelle’’, which she later ran. She used it for her pacifist ideas and her ideals of freedom for the central European countries. She campaigned for women's equality and was a close friend of Jean Monnet.

The Louise Weiss building is the one in Strasbourg, the one in Brussels is named after Paul-Henri Spaak and the one in Luxembourg is named after Robert Schuman!
