She was a writer and an activist, and she was elected as a Member of the European Parliament during the first-ever direct elections in 1979. Early in her career, in 1918, she was involved in the launch of a newspaper: ‘’L'Europe Nouvelle’’, which she later ran. She used it for her pacifist ideas and her ideals of freedom for the central European countries. She campaigned for women's equality and was a close friend of Jean Monnet.
https://historicalarchives.europarl.europa.eu/home/cultural-heritage-collections/buildings/louise-weiss-building.html

hpod16@eupolicy.social

Reply to Who is the #EuropeanParliament building named after, which houses the hemicycle (the main debate chamber) in Strasbourg? on Thu, 07 May 2026 07:54:32 GMT

All three of these options are actually European Parliament Buildings!
The Louise Weiss building is the one in Strasbourg, the one in Brussels is named after Paul-Henri Spaak and the one in Luxembourg is named after Robert Schuman!
You can learn more about the buildings here: https://historicalarchives.europarl.europa.eu/home/cultural-heritage-collections/buildings.html

#EPSOPrep #EU

hpod16@eupolicy.social

Reply to Who is the #EuropeanParliament building named after, which houses the hemicycle (the main debate chamber) in Strasbourg? on Wed, 06 May 2026 17:04:35 GMT

@hpod16 I'll freely admit that Parlement wasn't always as funny as it could have been (while still FUN). But it IS an excellent source of EPSO prep, so I'm pretty sure I've nailed this one (and also got the PECH Committee one right thanks to Samy the Shark).
