I had literally just started preparing to install Devuan dual boot, which is how I found this thread, when I started seeing seeing comments about the maintainer (from memory, "crypto-fascist", but I may be wrong).

Something similar happened when I bought a Framework 13--it was the best thing since sliced bread, it was repairable, upgradable etc. until I started enjoying it and then I started seeing comments about how Framework sponsor several Linux distributions, and the maintainer of just *one* of them has displayed some disturbingly bigoted views in his social media.

My comment to you wasn't to say people are right or wrong to choose, or not to choose, something with an imperfect background. My comment was on the stupidity of the modern trend to ignore nuance, and make every judgment in single-bit binary

rupertreynolds@hachyderm.io

Reply to "Ubuntu going all-in on AI slop? on Thu, 30 Apr 2026 03:22:09 GMT

@RupertReynolds

If you make these kinds of choices based on "what someone says", you're doing it wrong. No one is suggesting that.

I am (slowly) moving from Debian to Devuan for all the obvious and well-documented problems with systemd. No need to recite that stuff in detail.

Observing that Ubuntu is going all-in on autoslop, and being able to connect the dots and project into the future, moving from Ubuntu to literally anything else (that isn't on the same problematic path) is also pretty darn obvious.

But throwing up a nihilist hypothetical strawman to try to convince others it's not worth trying to fix problems?
