but i haven't listened to those recent albums of his so can't comment there. i should give them a shot.

Don’t want to be one of those “their first album was best!” people - but generally I connected and still connect a lot more to albums 2 - 4 (‘Empty the Bones of You’ to ‘Totem’s Flare’) than anything I’ve heard since. However, will check out this new track zweikreise mentioned for sure, as I trust zweikreise’s taste and am always open to having a change of heart. 🙂

(He’s also said some very strange, absolutist things about music in interviews. Like this:

“I have this theory that modulating the key on a synth just sounds really cringey. It sounds like you’re doing music theory. Diatonic simple shapes suit electronic music so well.

Synths came out of musique concrète, hip-hop, disco – they’re not functional harmony machines. Whereas a piano can go through nine keys in three bars and it just works. ‘Who Booed the Goose’ stretches that. It’s harmonically busy, but to me it sounds natural. Long chord sequences in electronic music can be eye-rolly, but for that track it worked.”

i much respect that sorta thing tho...he's trying what he wants & doing different things, that's awesome. i don't want him or anyone to just churn out the style/s i personally like.

I guess relative to the accessibility / directness of some of his new music he’s not as big as some people I know in similar zones. And it’s true there was much more hype around releases like ‘Body Riddle’ iirc - but I was younger then, and obviously those were the Warp days (seems he’s not with them anymore…)
