My beloved and once-renovated Sennheiser Presence ( gemini://duncan.bayne.id.au/gemlog/2025-04-28-refurbishing-sennheiser-presence.gmi ) finally went to the great e-waste recycling centre in the sky; the microphone is as dead as a doornail.

Now I'm looking for a replacement. My wishlist, in descending order

1. Noise canceling *in the mic* so I can take calls from anywhere and not inconvenience the people on the other end with background noise. This was the Presence's killer feature, and the reason I loved it to bits. I bought it while consulting so I could take client calls from anywhere and still make it a pleasant experience for them. Busy city street? Car with open windows? No problem.

2. USB *and* Bluetooth. I'd like to use the replacement device on my phone, FreeBSD PC, laptop, etc.

3. Noise canceling on the speakers. Less important (the Presence didn't have it), but I'm thinking it'd be nice to combine a few devices into one. If I could listen to music on the same headset I make calls with, that'd be grand.

4. USB-C. The Presence was my last EDC micro-USB device.

I *think* some of the Jabra headsets may qualify, but I can't work out their bloody product matrix, and *particularly* dislike the idea of accidentally buying one of their "MS Teams integrated" models I've asked Jabra support to recommend a model; we'll see how that goes.

Anyone got any advice / suggestions?

#freebsd #audio #headphones

Reply to Welp, it had to happen eventually. on Thu, 14 May 2026 04:09:39 GMT

@duncan_bayne Jabra’s Evolve series is good. I have them for the noise cancelling mic. I could use them in a Disco.

ianthetechie@fosstodon.org
