My mother-in-law did this exactly like that. My mother did not, but she did a different thing. Where, if she got speaking too fast, she would begin in one sentence, skip the end of that sentence and the beginning of the next, and finish end of that next sentence, so that it made almost totally no sense at all unless you were following her thoughts rather than her words.
