Blogs and personal sites require way too much technical knowledge and time invested to maintain them to be a realistic alternative for most people. Meaning only geeks would do that, and 99% of the population would be excluded in practice.
There is a reason people moved to the proprietary platforms, proprietary social networks, etc.: they were easy to use and reliable. You just needed to subscribe, which takes literally a few minutes, and then you could use them.

Meaning that people could spend their time and energy where it mattered to them: writing things, drawing, communicating with others. And not waste hours every week trying to fix technical issues.

We need people to move away from the proprietary platforms, yes. But for that to happen, we need tools that are as easy to use as the proprietary platforms.
