The fact that they hung out in their mansion and kept quiet for a year or two is nowhere close to restitution and I cannot comprehend the people who feel like it is deserving of forgiveness.

The worst men in Swalwell's shoes tough it out until the bitter end, significantly increasing the blast radius of their damage. At least he didn't do that. It's not much, but it's better than the alternative.

I suppose it's possible that will see the error of his ways, repent, atone for the wrongs he's done, and successfully resist the temptation to commit similar wrongs in the future when put in the position to be able to.
It's possible, but judging from what other men in his place have done, it isn't fucking likely.
Instead, he'll probably drop out of sight for a year or two and then try to rehabilitate his image without having done the work.
