My old MacBook has 4GB of RAM and it still does web browsing slowly (running Raspberry Pi Desktop, based on Debian 11). Many have alternate desktops for test/recovery/curiosity. There's the standard Linux Mint, which is just an Ubuntu derivative, and then there's Linux Mint/Debian, which is a direct derivative of Debian. It also depends on which daemons/applications you have installed and are running. Generalisations such as 'Ubuntu always uses more RAM than Mint' don't help anyone.
