My normal socks are usually merino (~60%) and on top I have woollen socks. Both are very comfy, they insulate but also evaporate, thus my feet don't get sweaty nor smelly.

Last time I didn't see it and just put my bare foot into the crock, squish. It was great 😌.
They also occasionally stuff their toys into them, maybe you could train them to puke into your shoes by putting their catnip mice there ^^
