The only reason is not "economically profitable" (yet) is the small scale of the network. Have you ever asked yourself why corporate media became so successful in the fist place? People are lazy, selfish, easy to manipulate and usually bad educated by default. Social media (at large scale) will never be healthy while people still being like it is now, but corporate social media is making the problem worst. It's a vicious circle and sadly i don't see an exit.

There are humans on LinkedIn and Facebook, but reaching them means getting past the keyword-driven algorithm, which often informs you of relevant thread activity very late, and reliance on pre-existing networks (virtually no dynamic growth now) on Facebook also in my experience. This is not to say that I have not had useful information, data or interactions outside Fedi.

Not perfect, but the decentralisation removes incentives to scale these too much. It's not economically profittable for platform owners and thuq not for tje perpetrators.

They become low background noise and not the central feed.

It's a different scale but indeed there are people making profit selling things in mastodon. Also there are "influencers" that everybody retoot everyday saying noting while many people fighting against those corps gets ignored. It's not all content you see on mastodon (yet) but it happens and will happen more the bigger the network grows.
