Universal basic services does seem to have a lot of administrative overhead. Maybe it works for housing, education, and medical care, but not so well for, well, income. If the income is high enough to allow people to choose housing broadly from the market, instead of only paying minimal rent in community housing, then the local grocery and discount stores can't set prices to prey on a captive, immobile population.

I've heard that argument, and I've heard debunkings of that argument, I've seen more data and papers favourable on the UBI side ...
Yet, in just about about every system I see, context and the particulars of configuration and interaction are a massive part of the equation and we never seem to make these things other than as black boxes.

Which we then detonate, unexamined, out in a field when the first output isn't perfect.
