i started doing this about five years ago and still do it constantly.

i will see something happened (past tense) in like 2024, and i'll think to myself "but 2024 is like 4 years from now"

or i'll see the age of an actor who i think is way, way younger than me and i'll think "oh that's not right, that person is in their 20s" reader, that person is 37

But, getting serious for a moment, external things seem more recent than more personal things. Marvelling at the blossom on the flowering cherry trees on the street where I grew up β€” that feels more timeless, and therefore more recent, than my mother kneeling down and asking if I knew which year it was, because she passed away decades ago and I'm not the little boy I was then.
