When a restaurant writes “86 Potato Skins” on the board it means WE RAN OUT OF POTATO SKINS. DO NOT SELL POTATO SKINS BECAUSE WE DO NOT HAVE ANYMORE.

If they are trying to get rid of the potato skins they put them on the specials board.

From what I can tell, this is mostly when screenwriters need one last synonym for "offing" someone in a Mafia scenario. It's absolutely a reach.

The thing is, they KNOW what it means. It just doesn’t matter. They are trying to control the narrative because everyone who is not them is the enemy and therefore must be controlled or exterminated.
