I am privileged enough, in my old age, to have had a working life where I could save enough to think of myself as comfortably off. I own a house - finally - and I can do the things that are listed. </p><p>I feel that I have enough. It seems like I was almost living in another reality. But when I was much younger, I had to spend a while on government assistance. And even then, I still felt capable of giving something to someone on the street. Because I didn't feel like the next cheque might be the last money I had. </p><p>I really do believe in social safety nets.
