What came across to me was that your genes are super important so people should avoid adoption (and marrying eg other races...) to make sure their genetic legacy continues.

I'll try restate it.

I've met people who have children because they want to leave part of themselves behind when they die. I find that problematic. I think children are their own persons, and don't exist for the parents. Not to live out parents unfulfilled dreams nor as vessels for their genes. This picture illustrates how quickly our unique gene combination mixes out.

My first guinea pig was an all black female. I told my parents I wanted to get a white male and breed gray babies.

Parents: "It doesn't work that way."

Absolutely! Sometimes starting simple is the best way to understand genetics before diving into the chaos . I also think Mastodon is great for broadening my knowledge in so many different areas.
