They believe the bullshit, and are too ignorant or proud to understand or admit that they got had.

I had to go zero-contact with my mother because over the course of the pandemic she believed increasingly unhinged conspiracy theories, and no evidence could change her mind.

It seems like most folks that Intalk to have someone in their extended family that has fallen for the nonsense and ended up isolated from friends and family.
