A good thread on some of lessons learned pertaining to centralized dependencies revealed by the Bluesky April 15 outage. In particular, issues relating to and and the complexity of actually creating systems that federate on AT Protocol.

@ikuturso: ...it turned out they where not quite as independent as they'd hoped (it's a complicated system)

@mcc: Bluesky is easier for entry level users to grasp, but as soon as things start going wrong, it gets CONFUSING.

It does seem like people are jumping through hoops to use a network that is very hard, if even feasible, to federate, when a relatively simple effective solution exists.
